Pyzel Crisis Twin Surfboard

The Crisis Twin is a natural evolution from our Mid Length Crisis, which was typically ridden as a 2 1. We kept seeing people throwing twin keel fins into the forward boxes and realised it made the board a whole different thing, but the fin placement wasn’t optimal for control and performance. So eventually we built the Crisis Twin, a twin fin only version of the MLC with speed and flow as the main objectives.

The design was already well suited to being ridden as a twin, a semi- traditional, wide-point forward outline that is sleek and racey for fast, down- the-line drive, but full bodied enough to provide added stability and glide in weaker, slower waves, but we did make a few small tweaks to improve it, pulling in the nose outline a touch to add more curve for more carve, and also adding some nose rocker to free it up a bit in tighter pockets and late drops.

Easy paddling, responsive and loose, it has a beautiful foil from beaked nose to round tail, with a rolled deck that leaves the meat in the
middle of the board to help with paddling and nicely thinned out rails for sensitivity and bite.

The outline is a long, clean curve, with no hip or wings, so it keeps a smooth flow on rail and through turns. The rocker is a moderate, long, clean curve running from tip to tail without any radical changes or flip.

It is designed for fast paddling and to easily generate speed, carry flow, and smooth turning at any speed. The bottom contours are a mild vee with double concave (the old
school term is “Spiral Vee”). This basically means that the board has no problem tipping from rail to rail, making smooth transitions
through turns an easy accomplishment for all levels of surfer.

The bottom line is that the Crisis Twin is a fast paddling, fast surfing and super fun addition to our Velocity Project lineup. It might help you look at weaker, funky waves with a little more lust, and it will for sure let you have a blast at any long, lined up wave you can find!

We recommend you ride this board as short or as long as you want, it works great as a little rip stick or a longer cruiser, whatever makes you happy.

About Pyzel Surfboards:

Jon Pyzel is a name synonymous with surfboard design. From a young age, Jon grew up surfing in his home town of Santa Barbara in California. After spending time travelling, he decided to move to North Shore on Oahu to enjoy better waves and warmer waters.

Fixing dings in the Country Surfboards factory, Pyzel learnt how much about crafting surfboards and worked in all areas - a hot coater, laminator, ghost shaper until finally stepping out and shaping under his own name. This start with some of the best shapers and glassers in the industry would ensure Pyzel was heading down the right track.

Being surrounded by many of the world’s most talented shapers as well as some of the best surfers including John John Florence, has given Jon Pyzel the opportunity to create , for all kinds of surfers and waves.

Jon still lives in Hawaii wiith his wife and 2 daughters, running the Pyzel Surfboards factory on the North Shore and traveling around the world to shape boards and test them in all sorts of conditions.
